How To Enable Field Level Security Codes on Text Boxes

Overview: This walkthrough explains how to modify a Page containing a text box that displays a calculated value or a return value. An example of this type of text box is the Cr. Card Number (Last 4 Digits): text box on the Invoicing Tab of the Sales Order Page.

A Field Level Security Code enables fields and actions to be set to Editable, View or Hidden on a Page. Text boxes are not fields or actions and therefore cannot be controlled by a Field Level Security Code by default. However, a modification can be made to enable the ability to control calculated or return values in a text box using a Field Level Security Code.

This modification allows the text box to take on the property of another field on the Page. What this means is if you wish to HIDE the contents of the Cr. Card Number (Last 4 Digits): text box, then the field that the text box gets its properties from will have to be set to HIDE also in the Field Level Security Code.

To make the changes so the Cr. Card Number (Last 4 Digits): text box can be controlled by a Field Level Security Code, follow the steps outlined below.

NOTE: This walkthrough assumes that Field Level and Data Security have been implemented in the Source Table for the Page in question.

1) Open the Development Environment. Click on Page, select Page 42 (Sales Order).

2) Click the Design button.

3) Locate and select the Credit Card No. field. Click on the Properties button in the Tool Bar to display the Field properties. The ESACC_F827_Visible, ESACC_F827_Editable and ESACC_F827_HideValue are the properties that need to be copied to the Text Box properties.

4) Locate the Cr. Card Number (Last 4 Digits): field and copy (or type) the Easy Security code from the properties of the Credit Card No. Field to the properties of the Cr. Card Number (Last 4 Digits): text box.

5) If the permission value is set to HIDE for the Credit Card No. Field in a Field Level Security Code, then the value of the associated Text Box (Cr. Card Number (Last 4 Digits) will be Hide also. Whatever the permission value is set to in a Field Level Security Code for the "copied from" field - the permission value for the Text Box will be the same.

6) Both the Cr. Card Number (Last 4 Digits): and the Credit Card No. field are hidden in the screenshot below.
